On the way back from the office, I dropped by at Ichinokura, one of the famous antique/recycle kimono shop, in Matsuya department store in Ginza. I accidentally met with a hechima weist pad. A weist pad is often used to make a body line straighter, so that kimono's obi can be tied in a good shape and no drop as the wearer moves. For summer, however, it is hot and sometimes causes a rash on the skin (because of the sweat inside the pad), I have been looking for a better way to use a weist pad but to make a better, more comfortable condision to my body when wearing kimono in summer. This weist pad is made out of hechima (sponge gourd), and it helps to evaporate sweat a lot better than cottons or other artificial material with which weist pad is normally made of. I decided to give it a try on this hechima pad to see if it helps me to have a nicer kimono life this summer.
It looks like this when it spreads out.
